Wanaka walking and sun

Lake Wanaka is a pretty big and also cold lake, for some reason all lakes over here are cold, the sea is cold, and I am so far south.

Okay, I know I am so far south that the south pole is closer then the north one. So that is why the sea is cold, and the lakes are cold because so far all of them are glacier fed. And that is ice melt so cold as well ice melt, not a good place to swim.

But the beach is perfect the weather was fine. Hotel was blissfully child free. So after breakfast I would go for a nice 3 hour walk along the lake, first day turned right, second day turned left. To build up some stamina for the dreaded helicopter flight and 3 hour walk afterwards that was coming along in a few days.

Problem was, also great food in Wanaka. And lots of it. First day after the walk all I did was lay at the beach and read a book. Have some of that great food, and the most amazing fresh fruit icecream. Second day after the walk the weather turned and rain. So instead of more sun I took the opportunity to go to  the toy and transport museum of Wanaka.

It looks like the result of a very wealthy hoarder collecting everything he could get his hands on. Toys but also sewing machines, the first cellphones. Motorbikes, cars, plane’s, type writers, radio’s, silver and fake silver teaspoons. (looks like a relation of your former landlady moms). And all thrown in together in 4 big hangars and outside left to collect dust and rust.

The lavender farm afterwards was a good antidote from the mess and dust. It is weird, everybody I talked about later about that toy museum was enthusiastic and talking about how it took them back to their youth. I just saw the long lasting results of a mental disease in action. Because the hoarder past a few years ago and now his family is left running “his” museum of junk. Also rediscovered that I do not like lavender ice cream. Tastes like eating parfum.
