House hunting? Haunting? Or no it is an exorcism?

House hunting? Haunting? Or no it is an exorcism?

So the house that had to be found in two months and made livable.  Should be easy to find right? No aminal hotel necessary, so what could be the problem.

Well one problem is price, I have money from selling my old place, and some extra cash but not to much. And I don’t want to live in a big city anymore. A small village sounds best and with a big garden. Not a big house I am only on my own. So what would I need four bedrooms for? I am not starting a B&B. I like animals, humans are not my favorites.

To make it easier it is summer vacation, and a heatwave going on. Temperatures close to 40 Celsius, trust me that is hot.

I like hot but not that hot. So I am grumpy, angry, upset and have to find my dreamhouse. Good luck.

After about 4 houses I am even more ready to start hitting people for no real reason than that I need to hit somebody.

House five I booked to see and the day of the sighting I canceled because to hot to grumpy, I wont like anything at that moment.

The lady living there called and asked if I would then come the next day. Okay, the weather was a bit better that day, temperature in the high twenties. But not forty.

The drive was okay because weekend. The garden was big and green, there where two doggies that wanted to cuddle. And the house looked okay. Bit dated and not my style, lots of silver gray and wallpaper. But hey that can be fixed. The kitchen and bathroom where good. And the rest seemed like just cosmetic.

So I buy the place, 1 October I get the keys. And I start wrecking. I like wrecking stuff, the ceiling was lowered, but above it where these old old beams. Like over a 100 years old? Wait what? The guy I hired to do a technical checkup said it was a 1970 house? How are there 100 year old beams?

And is that asbestos? Yep that is asbestos. Or it really looks like asbestos. And why is the floor so wobbly over here? And it smells damp. It didn’t smell damp in summer because all the windows where open, but now it smells damp. Lets pull up some laminate flooring.

Is that two layers of wood? No three? No four? Rubber matting? And more layers of wood. And then nice more than 100 year old red tiles. Love the tiles but they are soaking wet.

So all the flooring had to come out of the bed room and the sand underneath dug out for 60 cm. do you have any idea how much 60 cm is? That is insane. And where I leave all that sand?

So two skips later the house is almost ready, except where the walls stay wet because there is a problem with probably the roof. I have a ton of sand in the garden and a bunch of asbestos plates. ( those couldn’t go into the skips).

Next chapter the move. Or movers from HELL.
